Classes
WoW Forever: nine classes at launch, how do you choose yours?
Just days before the 5 November launch. We're taking the opportunity to go over what you should ask yourself before creating your first character.
The countdown is nearly over: World of Warcraft: Forever opens its doors on 5 November 2026, with the level cap set at 60. For many players, one question comes up before they've even started the download: which class should I pick? The site GeeksLands has just published a guide titled "the complete guide to the nine classes to choose your adventure", a sign that the topic is on the community's mind.
What does this guide contain?
One piece of information does stand out clearly: the game offers nine classes playable at launch. If you're looking for a class-by-class breakdown, here we're offering you a method for making up your mind instead.
What are the nine classes?
The list features the great historic figures of Warcraft:
- Warrior
- Paladin
- Hunter
- Rogue
- Priest
- Shaman
- Mage
- Warlock
- Druid
Veterans will recognise the line-up of the original World of Warcraft. A word of caution, though: we don't yet know exactly what adjustments Blizzard has made to each of them in Forever. Talents, spells and balancing may differ from what you remember. It's best to wait for the first detailed feedback before drawing any firm conclusions.
How do you choose without regretting it three weeks later?
Rather than blindly following a tier list, ask yourself a few simple questions.
Which group role appeals to you? Taking the hits, healing your allies or dealing damage: these aren't the same experience, and some classes offer more flexibility than others. If you like variety, a hybrid class will leave more doors open for you.
Do you mostly play solo or in a group? Levelling to 60 is a long journey. A class that's comfortable solo will make your evenings of questing more enjoyable, even if it shines less in dungeons.
What kind of atmosphere speaks to you? Hurling fireballs, summoning demons, melting into the shadows, wearing plate armour… The flavour matters as much as the numbers. A class you find beautiful and coherent is one you'll play for longer.
How much time can you devote to the game? Some classes require more management (resources, pets, positioning). Nothing insurmountable, but it's better to know before you dive in.
And what about race?
Choosing a class goes hand in hand with choosing a race. Forever notably introduces the Skyborne, who are generating a lot of curiosity. The possible race and class combinations are worth checking before you create your character, to avoid any nasty surprises on the big day.
Do you have to decide before 5 November?
Not necessarily. Nothing stops you from trying out two or three classes over the first few levels before committing. In fact, it's often the best way to find out what you really enjoy. That's what the starting zones are for, and along the way you'll discover regions such as Zephras Isle and the Riverglades.
In the meantime, feel free to tell us in the comments which class you plan to play first: on our side, we're preparing dedicated pages for each of them.
Jobwow's take
Nine classes means nine good reasons to spend two hours on the character creation screen instead of playing, I know it already. My advice is the same as it has always been: pick the class that makes you smile, not the one sitting at the top of a tier list, because nobody levels to 60 out of obligation. And keep an eye on the final balancing; there's no guarantee yet that your memories of the original game will hold true for Forever.
