On the eve of the World of Warcraft: Forever launch, Maxroll has opened a dedicated section with guides for all nine classes, a talent planning tool and rankings by role. The content focuses on levelling, with endgame material and a database promised for later.

Choosing a class, spending your first talent points, deciding which profession to learn: the first hours on a new server always raise the same questions. Maxroll, a site specialising in role-playing game guides, has opened an entire section devoted to WoW Forever. IGN, for which Maxroll is the player-help partner for RPGs, presents the whole package in an article published on 3 November. Let's be clear from the outset: this is therefore an announcement made by a commercial partner of the site relaying it.

IGN mentions a release on 4 November. On our side, the launch is expected on 5 November, which leaves a few hours to prepare your character.

Which classes are covered?

All of them. Each of the game's nine classes gets its own guide: druid, hunter, mage, paladin, priest, rogue, shaman, warlock and warrior.

For now, each guide focuses on progression to level 60. According to IGN, they include:

  • builds designed for levelling;
  • advice on talents and spell rotation;
  • gear recommendations;
  • profession suggestions;
  • tips for getting around Azeroth.

The stated aim is to help players understand their class as they level up rather than impose a fixed recipe.

Can you plan your talents in advance?

Yes, thanks to Maxroll's planner, which includes a talent calculator. You can try out several distributions, then share the result with your friends or export it for your character. A community builds section also lets you browse other players' choices, to draw inspiration or start from an existing base.

Which class should you pick if you're still undecided?

That's what the tier lists are for. Maxroll offers separate rankings for solo and group levelling, as well as distinct lists for the damage, tank and healer roles. Enough to compare your options before creating your character. Still, bear in mind that a ranking drawn up before release remains an estimate: the game isn't yet in the hands of the general public.

If you're just starting out, our getting started guide is a useful complement to these resources.

What's still missing?

The section is only in its early days. Maxroll has announced several additions for later:

  • in-depth guides to endgame content;
  • class guides dedicated to max level;
  • a full database for searching items, talents and abilities.

No date has been given for these additions. A WoW Forever news section is also available on the site.

Jobwow's take

Having a talent calculator to hand before you've even killed your first boar is comfortable, and I'm not going to play the jaded gnome. But a tier list published before release is a bit like pricing a piece of loot at the auction house before it exists: interesting, but not gospel. My advice: use these guides to avoid wasted talent points, not to choose your class. Play the one you actually want to play, because that's the one you'll still put up with after the tenth wipe.
